Welcome
We are the Mathematical Social Science Team at RIKEN Center for Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences (iTHEMS) in Wako, Japan.
Our research focuses on understanding the dynamics of social behavior through mathematical modeling and analysis. We study how individuals and groups interact, cooperate, and compete in various social contexts, using tools from game theory, network science, and complex systems.
We investigate collective social phenomena such as cooperation, competition, opinion dynamics, and the evolution of norms and institutions using mathematical approaches. We analyze how individuals, organizations, and nations interact to shape social dynamics, drawing on tools from evolutionary game theory, network science, and complex systems science.
Our research covers a wide range of topics. For example, we study social dilemmas, where individually rational decisions can lead to undesirable outcomes at the group level. Through this work, we aim to develop a theoretical foundation that contributes to the design of more sustainable and resilient societies.
